My husband and I often get in a stupid argument about this... The theory is that in order to see color there has to be light, so when your eyes are closed are your dreams in color or in black and white?

I always dream in color. The thing is, you aren't actually using your eyes to see. You're brain is conjuring up images in your mind. So, you're, in a sense, "picturing" things. You know how some people close their eyes to remember something? Well, a lot of the time, they're picturing that thing. Close your eyes and picture bouquet of red roses. Do it with the lights on and the lights off. You can "see" the color both times.

Dreams are created by the mind, therefore there is no need of light in reality to dream in color. If your subconcious says that there's light in your dream, then there's color.

Mine are in color. I'm not sure if when you dream it matters if your eyes are open because your dreams are coming from your mind/brain. Right? LoL My belief is it comes from flashbacks and images stored within your brain that are triggered from things you've encountered during your life. Just a guess. No psychology expert! But I definitely dream in color. :) Good luck.

you are right, dreams has nothing to do with what we can or can't see. Besides you are out, how can you be seeing anything especially in the dark. I do dream in vivid color, people don't believe me then they need to heed and have try remembering what they dream the next couple days just to prove it. Good enough, yes?

I dream in color all the time. When you are dreaming, you aren't really "seeing" anything, therefore no light is needed. You are using memories to create your dreams and it's you mind at work.

You can close your eyes and daydream in color, so dreaming in color is possible. I only have black and white dreams when I have film noir dreams.

I've never had a dream in black and white, so for me it's all color.

No, I don't :( For me it's usually black and white and very blurry, I just know who the people are or what the objects are. Good question though!
