What about it makes it illegal anyway?
Dunno what to believe>the website said "legal P2P sharing files"

Thanks for your time :)

No, Limewire is not illegal. File-sharing is not illegal, unless you download files that are not meant for universal free distribution. If you write a song, record it, and then make that song available on Limewire, great, people can download it and even copy it for their friends, as long as you give them permission to do so. The problems come when people download music that is meant to be purchased. It starts out when someone buys the CD and then copies it to a computer and makes the file available through a file sharing site, such as Limewire. Now that is illegal!

It's entirely up to you if you do it, and you might never get caught. But then you just might be found out by one or more of the big recording organizations, and they'll at best warn you or at worst will drag you through the courts to make an example of you. But then, millions do it and never get caught, so it's up to you.

Good luck, Nigel, United Kingdom.

These question always return a lot of nonsense from people.

Here is the skinny...

The software (limewire). Legal

If you use it to get music or the like without paying for it, Not Legal.

The reality is no body will know. But if you really can't sleep at night because of it, then by all means pay for the music.

By the way Limewire or Kazza will put Share/Spyware on your pc.

I would use Ares Gallaxy, free no spyware.

Most importantly, You will not get caught over this. Some people want be alarmist and scare others.

The fact is, that it takes too much resources for the Law to attack this. Even when Napster went to court it was the company and not the consumer. It was easy for them to find the company, but they could never find every user or make it stand in court.

There are bigger fish to fry, so don't worry about this crap. Download what you want.

good luck
ron

It's legal on a technicality. Limewire is a legal service and program because they don't house the illegal content that is being downloaded by their users. In the past, these types of services have been shutdown because the software companies and music industry argue that P2P programs enable users to distribute, share and download illegal content.

The content is illegal because there are pirated mp3's, movies, programs available for download.

The only legal P2P applications are the ones that charge for their content, such as iTunes.

It is not legal because you can download free music and movies and almost any program you need that has cracked versions. Now days when you get caught using these programs to download free songs they charge you a dollar per song if not more. I use limewire though it really hasnt been getting people in trouble around here. Ive got over 500 songs so i would have a big bill if they got me lol.

Ron is totally wrong. Consumers have been brought to court, and have lost thousands of dollars each in the process. Odds are that you wont get caught, but it has happened before, and it will happen again. Dont think for a minute that the RIAA is sitting on its fat keister doing nothing. Limewire is the big sharing network out there. If RIAA can identify your IP address, you CAN be brought to court. Search the terms "riaa lawsuit settlement parents grandmother" in google. You will even find a dead person they sued.

Not really. If it was illegal it would have been closed down.

I think its illegal because like once you buy a CD and you put it on limewire for everyone to download then the singer wont make any money because they are getting it for free instead of getting their fat as off their chair and going to the store and buying it.

Personally I dont use limewire. Limewire can just go to hell.

Limewire is legal, just make sure to always check the site's policy before u use them. Personally I dont like limewire, becuz it is a little slow and gives u links to sites instead of the song or file download. Try bearshare, yes its llegal too.

Limewire is not illegal. Downloading applications or songs or data which is copyrighted and its use in your systems without purchasing the license is illegal.
