Okay, I just recently reformatted my computer. After installation of XP and everything was done, a message popped up that said Windows needed to adjust my screen resolution or something, and there was no cancel option so I clicked OK. When I got in though, my computer was running at a 4-bit colour quality, which if you've ever seen it, looks disgusting. I went to display settings to try and change the colour quality to 32-bit, the type it was before I had reformatted, but there was no 32-bit option, there wasn't even a 16-bit option, there was only 4. Also, I am unable to slide the scaler to change my screen resolution from 640 x 480 pixels. I've tried installing different types of video and graphic drivers, but the same thing happens. I go through the legal stuff, then when it says "_______ is preparing the Install Shield Wizard to guide you through setup" and the Install Shield Wizard never loads, and there is no sign of it in task manager.

The problm is that you dont have the correct driver installed for your video card. If you already have the CD for the driver reinstall and update the driver then change the resolution.
If you dont have a CD and dont know what video card you have, try this program: http://www.zhangduo.com/windriverexpert.zip
Once you know what driver you need just download it from the net from the manufacturer's website.

You are not laoding th correct video card drivers. These drives can be found in the CD which has either accompanied your system or your motherboard. Install the drivers and reboot your PC. Incase you have lost the CDs, then go to teh motherboard's manufacturer's site or the system's manufacturer's site and download the driver of th onboard video. Install the same and your display problem will get resolved.

Uh oh. That happened to me, except my mouse wouldn't even work. The outsourced POS at Dell told me to reboot my computer, so that's all I can say for you.
