On one occasion: nothing, in all likelihood. Don't do it regularly though.
For one, there's really no point as your body can't store most vitamins so the excess will simply be excreted. One-a-day vitamins (pro-natal type are best in pregnancy) are designed like this because they contain as much as you need for a day and no more.
Secondly, excess amounts of certain vitamins (A, in particular, I believe) can cause some damage to the unborn baby. Best not to risk it.
See your doctor if you think you're not getting enough of any nutrients.

Excess vitamin a is linked with birth defects if it is in retinol form, although there have actually only been a few cases of this happening in the past 30 years. The rest of the vitamins are water soluble and any excess that your body needs will pass out through your body.
If you have taken vitamins without realising you are pregnant, don't worry, you will be fine. But switch to a supplement that is designed for pregnancy.

Most vitamins are water soluble and will just pass straight through you if you take too many, there are some which the body stores such as Vitamin A and too much of this in pregnancy can cause birth defects such as blindness - but it has to be a certain type of vitamin A (ie found in meat such as liver etc not the vegetable kind). If in doubt don't eat it, for 9 months just go as healthy and cautious as you can, its a small price to pay for your baby's future health. If you've already taken too many I wouldn't worry, the chances are they pass through your system before even a fraction gets absorbed just go easy from now on.

Honestly...you should only be taking what your ob is recommending. A lot of people are under the impression that you can take how ever many vitamins that you want....so not true.... it can cause a lot of stress on your internal organs...it can be too hard for your body to process. SO I guess it would be the same if you have a sweet little baby in your belly. Definitely, only take what your doctor is recommending. No need to cause undue stress on you or the babies body!
Congrats!!

Leave the tablets alone and get all your vitamins from fruit and vegetables it is more natural and your body will pass this on to your baby. I really dont think multivitamins in tablet form are a good idea for anyone unless their doctor tells them to take them for some kind of dietry reason!

not enough folate (folic acid) can cause neural tube defects (like spina bifida)...too much vitamin A can cause birth defects, etc.
One prenatal vitamin per day along with the healthiest food choices possible is the best way to go - discuss it with the OB and if necessary ask for a referral to a nutritionist.
