The time frame varies by state it seems. In Michigan a landlord has 30 days to send you the deposit and notice of damages to a forwarding address that you are required to give the landlord at the time you return the keys. If you provided the address within 4 days of vacating the property and 30 days have gone by since then you may be entitled to double your security deposit if the judge rules that way.

state law dictates - in AZ landlords have 14 days, some states longer....google your state and landlord/tenant laws....if the deadline has passed, send him a demand letter....here in AZ if I miss the deadline and the tenant sues me, he would easily win double damages!!!
