I was thinking back to when I was in my early 30's and married and had two children. That's been a while ago but I know what I would have enjoyed receiving. Something personal and special just for me - a gift certificate for a manicure or an appointment at the hair salon. How about a cleaning lady to come in for a day? For me personally I would have most loved a professional massage but everyone doesn't like their back rubbed.

If money is a little tight you could tend the children for a certain number of hours or clean her house or give her a handmade certificate for a meal that you bring and clean up after. It doesn't have to be homemade. I bet she would appreciate anything she didn't have to cook and clean up.

In any case, something that only a tired wife and mother can use and will not be able to share with the gang. That way she can enjoy it with no guilt.

I'll be interested to see other answers.

Best wishes, Linda

A good book about keeping marriage alive & thriving. I would reccomend any by Dr. James Dobson ("Love For A Lifetime"), Stephen Arterbrn, M. Ed., Paul Meier, M.D., Dr. Henry Cloud & Dr. JohnTownsend (the "Boundaries" books, including "Boundaries In Marraige" and "Boundaries With Children")-these all have written some of the most realistic, down-to earth, great sense of humor books I have ever read, they lead seminars all over the country, and you can learn more re. them & their books at Oneplace.com. Also Dr. Charles Stanley if he has written on the subject.
If you go this route, make sure you write that it is because you so enjoy her & hubby, that you wish to add to their married bliss, in other words, make it clear that you are not thinking they need to "fix" their marraige, so they don't take offense!
I find that gifts that honor a marraige are usually well-received when given in this way, and maybe with something like a lighthearted card to keep the mood light.
Otherwise, since you did not specify your income limits, a weekend away at a B&B, ot 2 tickets to a play or movie that they can enjoy together (of course include childcare for their night out), many ways you can go with this.
Even one of those toilet seats at Lowes that automatically lowers after the man uses it-get silly, creative, have fun with this!

'How 'bout a creative bouquet of flowers, with a heart-felt poem, a poem that touches on something that you two both have in common and that you finally have resolved; and maybe, say, a shawl of some sort or artistic apparrel of some sort, nothing expensive. Let this be a Xmas gift comprised of the three: flowers, poem, and the apparel or whatever you choose that you have selected with her in heart and mind -- something different, see? So, don't only work outside the box -- throw away the box, see? Be creative, not boring...

Books, movies, lotion stuff, nice shirt, something that encourages her hobbies, gift card to Target, a small tool set if she's handy with stuff, movie money, gift card to somewhere she can go out to dinner with her husband. If she has kids, offer to take the kids for an evening so she and your brother-in-law can go out.

Book of poetry
Candles
Picture Frames
Blanket for the couch
Oriments for the Tree

If she likes to garden, cook, or has another hobby, head to a book store and get her something that would help her with it.

If they have children, make her a couple of tickets that say good for x (however many hours you want to put in there) amount of babysitting hours. Then staple them together and wrap them up. She can use them when she needs you to babysit.
