Hmmm... how about a good maglite flashlight?

Most gear is going to be provided by the department.

Looking to spend a little more? How about a police/fire scanner?

Are they a volunteer? When I was a volunteer I was always looking for little gagets for my car. A headlight flasher maybe? Those really work well for getting other driver's attention.
