-10 = 4-7x/4

To solve for x, you must have x alone on one side of the equals sign. Do this by doing the opposite of certain functions (like division is multiplication's opposite) to both sides. Start by subtracting 4 from both sides, which gets -14 = -7x/4. Now divide both sides by -7, and you have 2=x/4. Finally, multiply both sides by 4 to get 8=x. Yay!

It's hard to tell if your last four is under the fraction (4-7x) or just under the 7x. If it is under just the 7x, the answers above are right. If it is under 4-7x, see the answer below.

(-10)*4=(4-7x)
-40=4-7x
-36=-7x
(-36)*(-1)=(-7x)*(-1)
36=7x
36/7=x

if it's (4-7x)/4 then multiply both sides by 4, subtract the other 4 from both sides and divide both by -7.

if it's 4-(7x/4) then subtract the 4 from both sides, multiply both sides by the other 4 and divide by -7.

-10=4-7x/4
-10-4=4-4-7x/4
-14=0-7x/4
-14=-7x/4
-14(4)=-7x/4(4)
-56=-7x
-56/-7=-7x/-7
8=1x
x=8
