YES! IT WILL WORK.
But the catch is that unless u remove your old ddr333,even the ddr400 will work only at 333MHZ..
i suggest that u sell off the 512 at ebay and run the ddr400 at its true speed.
Power is fine..

250 watt power supply must have a dell? the ram upgrade will work if it's compatable with the motherboard and if you're upgrading to a gig then use two sticks of 512 instead of just one stick of 1024, you can' run one stick of the 333 with the 400 it's not compatible. I run a 550 watt power supply just so I know I have enough power for everything a P4 cpu or AMD64 cpu should have more than 250watts of power I think. You shouldn't need to update bios for a ram upgrade.

If you run the two together, they will default to the slower speed. However even if you only run the 1GB DDR 400 by itself, it the motherboard only supports up to 333, then it will run at 333.
You do not need to upgrade the BIOS. As for the power supply, I don't believe you asked for a critique of power supply sizes, you asked if you need to upgrade, and put simply, if your system runs now on 250, adding a simple stick of RAM will not cause it not to run. Hence, you do not NEED a power supply upgrade just to add the RAM.

It will work, but the faster ram will default to the slower speed. You're better off just using the 1-gig dDD-400. NO changes to the bios should be necessary, unless you have to change the latency. the 250 watt power supply really should be upgraded to at least a 350.

If you have the pins for it , why don't you add another 512 mb next to the one you have and that will make over a gig. As far as faster. Ram is just temporary storage space for the operations and programs you have running. The more ram you have, the less your virtual memory has to swap programs around to compensate for overload. When adding more ram you don't have to do anything to the rest of the system as I said before, RAM is just adding more space. It's like adding more drawers to hold your clothes.

There should be no problem with the RAMS as different speeds always work. As for BIOS it is best to always have the most updated version of BIOS on the system.

I agree with Jordan 100% on the memory issue, but go with a 400w PSU. You never know what you are going to load up with in the future.
