What is hair? What is it made of? How is it made? What does it do for us? Why do some animals not have hair?

All mammals have hair, even whales and dolphins. The different types of hair serve different purposes. Eyelashes keep skin flakes and particles in the air from falling in your eyes and I think hair on your head is mostly to protect it from the sun. Reptiles and birds don't have hair but they do have replacements that serve the same purposes. Birds have feathers and reptiles have a filmy layer of tissue that keeps things out of their eyes as well as keeping their eyes moist. I hope this helps!

Hair is made from the same substance a s feathers. It serves the same purpose - insulation. Mammals without hair have lost it because it is of no benefit - whales for example.

Through evolution, hair is a form of insulator.

Silverbirch, is sorta correct. However, whales have blubber for insulation. That's how they are able to stay in the cold water for a long period of time without being cold.
