How about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Ballerina Princess, Little Mermaid, Mother Goose, Three Little Pigs, Teddy Bear Land and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful & unique gift... Good Luck!

A gift where she can make something. 4 years old is a great age for creative learning and the beginning of her future.
Toys without thought are just toys to play and throw away. Think about it.

Here are some ideas:

Butterfly Garden by Imaginarium
Young children love butterflies! This item allows the child to witness the metamorphosis of a tiny caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. The kit includes an observation chamber and a certificate for 5 painted lady caterpillars. The caterpillars arrive in a cup with food for the caterpillars. After the caterpillars form cocoons they are transferred to the observation chamber where the butterflies emerge. $24.99

Crayola Wonder items by Crayola
The innovative folks at Crayola have done it again by creating markers and fingerpaint that will not end up on your walls or carpet! Crayola Wonder markers and fingerpaints are clear in color until they come in contact with the special Crayola Wonder paper and the color magically appears. This is a great item for those creative kids who can’t seem to keep their artwork contained to a sheet of paper. $8.99+

Play Doh Barrel
Play Doh has not changed over the past hundred or so years and neither have children…they still love the stuff! The Play Doh Barrel includes several can of Play Doh, cookie cutters, rolling pins, scissors, and extruding tools. Kids will enjoy several hours of creative fun with this item. $14.99

Parent’s Magazine Bee Bop Band by Battat
Although recommended for children as young as 18 months, my 4 year old daughter absolutely loves this toy. There are enough instruments here the birthday and all of her party guests to play. Included are a 9 inch drum with two drumsticks, ant bells, ladybug xylophone with detachable mallet, bee clacker, and a caterpillar tambourine. The best part…the 9 inch drum doubles as a storage case for all of the instruments! No more loose toys all over the house! $35.95

Dora the Explorer: My Talking Backpack by Fisher Price
Dora’s constant companion, her backpack contains everything she needs to get out of a jam. My Talking Backpack by Fisher Price is no exception. The backpack comes with a compass, video camera, telescope, and map which all fit neatly into the backpack. Backpack also says several cute phrases and sings the ‘Backpack Song’. A must have for every little explorer. $16.99

Magic Glow Doodle Bear
Doodle away on this cute bear then throw it in the wash and start over. The Magic Glow Doodle Bear also glows in the dark and comes with a Magic Glow Light Pen which the child can use to doodle on the bear as well (images drawn with the Glow Light Pen glow in the dark). A cute way to encourage creativity. $19.99

Cabbage Patch Kids - Magic Touch Color Silk $
An old favorite with a new twist, this Cabbage Patch doll has hair which changes color with cold or warmth. Dolls include a pouch in which an ice cube is placed (to apply cold to the doll’s hair), a hairbrush, birth certificate, and adoption papers. 29.99

Leap Frog - Talking Words Factory DVD
Tad and his siblings Leap and Lily help kids learn to combine individual letter sounds to make three-letter words, use common ending sounds to create rhyming words, and blend letter sounds to make even longer rhyming words. This DVD is fantastic! My friend’s son has it and I plan to pick up a copy for my daughter. $14.98

a doll, a doll house, clothing, barbie jeep, anything pink and "cute." If its a doll, no dollar store dolls please. I hated those as a child. Matel or Zapf only.
