A wireless router is basically like an extension cord for your modem. What you do is plug the modem into the router and then it transmits the signal wirelessly throughout the house. You can get them at best buy or any electronc stores like that. Usually run about 60-100 depending on the brand and speed. I would say linksys is the best one available.

A pretty complex question, but basically it allows wireless devices to communicate with each other and usually the Internet. Why not just go to amazon.com and search for "wireless router"? You'll get an idea of prices, etc. and can then make a more informed decision.

A router is a tool used to split an internet connection to more than one computer. It routes the information to the correct device. A wireless router does it wirelessly. You must have a wireless card on your computer.

A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A router is connected to at least two networks, commonly two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP's network. Routers are located at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect, and are the critical device that keeps data flowing between networks and keeps the networks connected to the Internet. When data is sent between locations on one network or from one network to a second network the data is always seen and directed to the correct location by the router. They accomplish his by using headers and forwarding tables to determine the best path for forwarding the data packets, and they use protocols such as ICMP to communicate with each other and configure the best route between any two hosts.
The Internet itself is a global network connecting millions of computers and smaller networks — so you can see how crucial the role of a router is to our way of communicating and computing

basically it takes some of the "internet" from your own computer and transfers it to a device of your choice through radio waves but if you're planning to play internet games with a wireless router i'd advice against considering how little it transfers(lag up your game)
