lap top stops with black screen totally empty .. doesnt respond to windows Cd.. i don have back up cds is there a way i can solve it my self ? ?? thanks

You can reinstall the boot sector if you have a XP install disc. Have it boot from the cd and go to the recovery console. When it gets to the recovery command, type help. read through the topics and there will be one that says something about repairing the boot sector.

Try running the Win Installation CD. go to Repair console and do a scandisk
