I don't know other than sex and violence sell. Look at the crap they sell as video games. I won't go to see most movies anymore... and I understand my Dad's comments when I was young: "What's this world coming to?"

And for the lad with the "Wisconson" crack... MOST of the real world ISN'T that violent... it's the national cable news that just broadcasts stories about it endlessly.

Well, it is a Martin Scorcese film. Most of his films are very violent and graphic to begin with: Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Casino, Gangs of New York, etc.

The world is becoming more violent by the hour..... if the world is violent then it will come out in the movies that the people with violent minds make.

i think its due to our being desensitized as a culture.

movies need that "ohh!" factor to sell, and with all the violence going on in the world today, and how more producers and directors are pushing the envelope, they need to be more edgey to get that reaction.

but i don't think its just with movies today. its just the fact that more mainstream movies are like that. some of peter jacksons (director of lord of the rings) lower budget movies were very graphic for the time they were released, as was sam raimis (director of spiderman) evil dead movies.
