BINX---I'm a decorated veteran from the Korean war, and I hate war. It's shallow of you to refer to me as a "war-monger",simply because I see the need for Americans to stand up at times.
If your nuts are too badly schriveled, I'll take your place.

Even opposed to the Iraqi war as I am, I feel the need for the free flow is necessary. Any oil cutoff by the middle east will have severe to the economies of the west. How does yur food get to the supermarket? How do your kids get to school? How do you get to work? More often than not, the internal combusion engine, powered by oil.
I don't think Iraq was invaded to secure oil rights, I think it was a misguided pipe dream of Bush to bring democracy to the middle east, an impossible dream. But we run on oil and need to have access to it.
One thing Carter did that was positive was to talk about the consequences of our continued insatiable appetite for oil. We need to be much more conservation minded. Bush mentioned conservation ONCE, that's right ONCE, during the current crisis. We need stronger laws about fuel efficiency. If someone can tell me a good reason for excluding SUVs from current fuel efficiency regulations, I'd be shocked.

No war for oil, it can be done, whatever BIG OIL does is done in the name of profit, to please the investors, that is fine and that is the way it should be. (I like my dividends checks) . By the same token if you just develop your own resources, uncap your wells and let the good times roll, there is no such thing as an oil shortage (unless BIG OIL engineers it) It might be costlier to develop, hence lower profits, but then your local worker got a job. It is a fine balance, but it is workable. The biggest problem is to get consumers to agree to the same thing for more than a fleeting moment. As for big oil, well, they are getting rid of all the smaller players slowly but surely and when they have the monopoly anything goes. Collusion, price fixing, you be the judge......

I ride my bike to work SUCKA!
I agree with you PARTLY because the entire economy of the WORLD is a fossil fuel driven one, and we need a lot of it to get goods from point A to point B
BUT!!!
With ALL the trillions of dollars spent on a war to secure MORE oil.....I believe would be better spent investing in alternatives to the OIL CRISIS, we WILL face, 20 to 30 years from now.
PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS PISS-POOR PERFORMANCE MY OIL-WAR MONGERING FRIEND!!!

No I would ride a bike probably.
Oil is going to run out anyway. Instead of spending billions a war we should be spending that money to fund research into alternative energy sources.
Too bad our government is in the back pocket of oil companies.

Don't worry - we're getting to the point where there won't be any jobs in America.
Talk to all those celebrities who worry about what's going on in every country but the one where they make their bread and butter.
