yes you need an analog modem, it can be pci internal or external that doesn't matter, and the phone line to it will need a filter.
The line from the wall jack needs a 2 way splitter. One filtered to the 56k analog modem, and one unfiltered to the dsl modem

We never filter the phone line to the dsl modem or the dsl won't work.
