I need to buy a new natural gas furnace I currently have a 20 year old 150,000 btu/hr natural gas furnace rated 80% efficient. I was thinking of either a 90% or 93% rated one. Duct work is all in good shape.I was wondering what to expect cost wise, for a high quality/name brand furnace with installation? Any knowledgeable guestaments/ballpark amounts would be welcomed !!

If you looking to have a 90+ efficient furnace installed then I would recommend a Trane. Trane is considered by many to be "top of the line". If you are getting just a furnace then it will probably be anywhere from $2500 to $4500 I would guess. It depends on how far the flues have to be ran and if you need a chimney liner or not. If you live in or near Denver, I would be more than happy to come by and give you a bid. The bid may be higher if you are changing or adding air conditioning.

I would buy the very minimum that can possibly heat your house. or even go a little smaller and use supplemental electric heat. 80% efficiency on a 100,000 BTU furnace is alot better than a 150,000 btu furnace. Also, You pay alot more for an extra 10% efficiency on the top of the line models.

Bryant, Carrier, Trane and Lennox are all good quality equipment. I've been particularly impressed withe Bryant's 93 and 94% rated models. I would ask around locally to see who has the reputation as a quality installer. Make sure they do a full sizing calculation and that they test the new equipment to make sure air flow through the unit is within specs. If you have central air, a higher-end 93+% unit with a variable speed blower is a very good choice.

I recently bought a furnace, about half that btu wise, 80% single stage amanana, and a humididifier was $1800...Family Heating and Cooling in Westland, MI, I recommend them.....
I was given the option of a 90+ for 300 more dollars, and they said it wasn't really required......
I think you are looking at 2000-2500....make sure you get a humidifier....it makes all the difference in the world.
