if i make a statement....
INPUT "the answer will be: "; a * b
... what varible do i use to gather the answer?

a * b = c

how would i get c?

Ah you wouldn't do that it would be like this:
INPUT "Please enter_____ for a"; a
INPUT "Please enter_____ for b"; b
LET c = a*b
PRINT c
