i just came back from one . i got a money box that had 6 dollars in it . my hubby got a metal duck . we brought a box of popcorn with hot choc and cookies with the hot choc in it
my mom got a belly dancing dvd
my dad got a can of apples sause( lame) if i cant think of anything funny i give something useful like a smores kit or dish towel and soup
TP and a toliet brush

it depends on if you're doing it the right way or not, typically a white elephant is stuff you don't want from your house, now if you're buying stuff then it depends on the price limit, what about a fun winter hat ( one year had a Chiefs hat with the dreads hanging off, it was fought over the whole night), or gift card to a restaurant, box of chocolates, cocoa and some mugs, if you have a dollar store where every thing is a dollar go in there and just shop around, was at the one where I live and they had some very nice looking coffee mugs for a dollar.

(Just a side note if you do bring something from home, make it tasteful, don't make it something that you'd not want; for example raw liver, or rocks and sticks, old pair of underwear.)

Somebody did this in my 8th grade band class--
They brought a roll of toilet paper (so y'know, nobody wanted it.) they finally got to the end an the kid who was stuck with the tp looked all upset. So the girl who brought it told him to unroll it. About halfway through, she had began to tuck $1 bills in about every 10 inches.
I though it was so cool, because the kid who supposedly got the worst present ended up getting like $15.
