Well, take a look at the colors she wears most. Get something in one or more of those colors.
Think about her hobbies. If gardening, go to a big Garden Center & talk with them about what she does & ask what they would reccomend. Always go to a source that has expertise in her area of interest & ask lots of questions. They will usually be thrilled to share thier knowledge, and you will have a truly custom gift for Mom.Of course do this EARLY in the shopping season, while they have the time to help you in this manner & are not being stampeded by customers.
Personally, I like to ask myself what are some of her favorite, most often used things already-whether it be a type of music, favorite restaraunt, specialty food, etc.
You can build on that or give a gift certificate for someplace she loves to shop, and she can make a time to go in & really enjoy getting just exactly what she likes best.
You can go less mainstream-get a star named after her, sign her up for membership in a trade magazine or for the voice lessons she's always wanted...
The more thought you put into listing her favorite things/experiences, the better your chances of coming up with something uniquely special & thoughtful from you to her.
Heck, go with your siblings & have your photo taken with Santa after all these years, she'll love it!
