They get along with most any fish. I have kept them with Oscars, big Angels, sharks, tinfoil barbs, even guppies and tetras. Have fun!
You do know that he'll get really, really big? I have one in a 72 gallon tank that is about 10 inches long.

No! Not a good idea. I've done that before. Whenever my goldfish stopped moving even for a split second or came up to eat, the algae eater ( by the way, that is the ONLY sucker fish you can put with goldfish. no plecos, etc ) would swim up the fish and stick on their sides. It stressed my fish so much that I believe it led to the death of one of them. No, just sick to just goldfish. Trust me, they'll be happier that way. =) Hope I helped! By the way, a lot of the things the people above have said are true. Especially the one where the algae eater sucks the slime coat off of the fish. Except for "Big boy ya kno." Your aquarium should be about 75 gallons by the time they are adults, or their growth will be stunted, as was his case..

I would not keep a pleco in a 10 gallon tank. What the petstores don't tell you is that plecos reach 18" long! And they are real poop machines.
Please consider bringing your pleco back to the petstore, and getting a school of oto cats, instead:
http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/oto_cat.jpg
They are smaller, cuter and they eat algae much better than a pleco will.
Here are a couple suggestions:
4 oto cats
6 harlequin rasbora http://tropicalresources.net/phpBB2/templates/BMan1Blue/images/profile_pics/fish_profiles_heteromorpha1.jpg
1 dwarf gourami http://www.biol.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/users/naibunpi/Image/Gourami-photo-old.jpg
OR
4 oto cats
6 neon tetras
3 guppies or 3 platies
If you must keep your pleco, go with a handful of neon tetras as tank mates, because plecos produce a lot of waste and cannot be kept with much else - and make sure you keep up with weekly water changes.
Just a note: please, before you buy any fish, research them, first. The petstores WILL lie to you if it means you'll buy the fish, and certain fish like oscars, goldfish, pacus and bala sharks are only 2-3" in the store but WILL grow to 18" inches and can obviously not survive in a 10 gal.

I have a 125 gallon fish tank with 3 plecos, 3 gold fish, 2 angelfish, 2 corycats, 4 mollies, 2 irredescent sharks and 5 black skirt tetras. Plecos get along with everything.

Any other fish with the same water/habitat requirements and about the same size. I kept 2 suckers (maybe beta fish size) in with my 6 goldfish and they were ok with eachother

hi heather you can add just about any tropical fish or goldfish to your tank with a sucker fish. i had a Oscar once that didn't like my sucker fish so keep that in mind. other that that i think your little sucker will be just fine! good luck!

I'm not sure in that size, but we have a large pond with goldfish and koi in it and they were fine with a HUGE plecostumous in it.
