If we were able to get a democratic government there tomarrow, everyone knows that all branches of the new government would end up in the hands of religious extremists who would continue to hate Americans.
Do Americans want to pay the bill for that outcome?

WWD---I agree. That's what we would like. However, that doesn't seem to be what most Iraqis want; and we know it.

Ticd---You have made a good point.
However I'm afraid our "intent" will be kicked into the back seat if the wrong "result" raises it's ugly head.

Andy G---All true, but the demo. gov. is not turning out to be our idea of what it should be, and we might end up paying to support our enemies.

We want a Democratic Government that is friendly to America and won't want to train terrorists to kill us in the future.
It is Christmas-time and we are allowed a wish or two...

Not exactly. We'd like a government based on democratic principles that would include guarantees of separation between religion and state, and political representation by all ethnic groups. This is needed not only to prevent the scenario you posit, but also to prevent fragmentation, as an independent Kurdistan would make our NATO allies in Turkey very nervous.

because saying a govt that will help protect our interests sounds bad in the world political scene but everybody knows thats the goal. We have to have a connection with the Middle east. If we lose that we will be destroyed economically due to our drug addiction to oil..
also a govt that is not a puppet of Iran or syria wouldnt go over well in the grand scheme of things.

Hell yeh.. there isn't any democratic government there, there isn't a chance in hell of one, and it isn't what the people there especially want anyway - they want a government that respects their deeply religous background, NOT a US stooge

No because Saddam has been overthrown and an elected government has been formed by the people of Iraq.

Democracy is relative. The radical Muslims, with their prophecy of global domination and the killing of all infidels, needs to be stopped.
Call it whatever suits you.
