That is quite the marriage they got going isn't it?! However, I don't think it is right for a woman OR a man to hit one another. It is abusive and wrong. However, society won't throw a woman in jail unless she is really abusive and kicks the crap out of man, however, are quick to throw a guy in jail for spousal abuse. Men have more strength and can cause more damage than a woman. But I don't think it is right for a woman to strike a man either. Abuse is abuse no matter how you spin it.....

Hitting is never the answer. You seem to be explaining away her actions due to her being off her meds, and while I know mental illness is serious, it does not excuse her actions. Why does she even go there in the first place? That is what needs to be addressed and merely try to control the symptoms of the underlying issue with meds will not work. And why would someone that has bipolar and borderline personality disorder (whatever that is) marry someone extremely controlling and verbally and emotionally abusive? Sounds like a big mistake and hopefully they don't kill one
another before divorcing.

I don't think anyone should be hitting anyone. Given the information given, he could have been a bigger man and tried to defuse the situation. If he cannot deal with the fact she has these problems, maybe she should leave him and maybe she could get off some of her meds.

No that guys is a sissy! Unless I missed something, she has bipolar disorder. That means she has some really bad mood swings. Included in that affliction is the possibility of physical violence.
Knowing these things, if he did hit her, that makes him a sissy and a cruel man. If "HE" cannot take it, the woman must be taken for treatment.
He needs to know, she has a documented mental illness, so the courts would take this into consideration. He on the other hand can be charged with assault, get locked up and have to deal with rapist, murderers and homosexual rapists. In the joint, the inmates take great pleasure in inflicting maximum pain to men that beat up children and hit on wives, girlfriends and women in general!
That sissy needs to be told to keep his hands to himself and to get some anger management!

A guy should never hit a women!!! Especially if she is mentally ill. A guy can defend himself in that if she raises her hand, he can restrain her, so she can't hit him again, but not to the point of hurting her. The best thing to do is do what my SGT Major use to tell soliders in my unit, flea, don't hang around and fight, if they hit you, just run the other way. He didn't care if they looked like they were scared, he was just tire of picking up soldiers from the police station.

No way. 2 wrongs dont make a right. What she did isnt necessarily right but could fall under temorary insanity due to her being of meds. His actions are totally uncalled for, cause chances are hes bigger and stronger and in better health so he cant use self defense as an excuse. Under these circumstances she could press charges against him for simple assault btu nothing will come out of it except for more family problems so theyd be best to learn from this and let it go. Good luck

It is hard no matter what the situation is to not have an instinct of hitting back. He should of handled it differently I agree but thinking of that situation and being in that situation is a totally different thing.

Two wrongs do not make right. She was wrong to hit him and he was even more wrong to hit her back. Shame on him. If you are friend you should ask social services to intervene. By being silent you are supporting an abuse of sick person which is very wrong too.

Asuming he was more with it than her, he probablly shouldn't have hit her. I'm sad the days when a guy never hit a girl for any reason are gone. But then I miss the days when women always obeyed their man. Now we have the rule that no one hits anyone else and no one follows the rule because it applies to everyone but them.

Generally I'd say if a chick hits a dude, then he's justified in hitting her back (although a lot of guys claim them wouldn't). However in this situation, no...he shouldn't have slapped her..just restrained her from hitting him again...mentally ill people have enough issues and that doesn't excuse her, but he should have had more control of himself....
