my 72 chevy (c10, manual trans) blinkers stopped working the other day. neither blinker flashes, it just stays illuminted when i hit the switch. the emergency flashers work fine as long as im off the brake. if i push brake pedal the flashers stop flashing and stay lit. im thinking it has to be a ground problem? but could it also be in the brake switch or turn signal switch? any info would be appreciated

It sounds like the turn signal flasher may have gone junk. Since the turn signals in the front and the brake lights illuminate, then the turn signal switch is operating properly. There are 2 flashers, 1 for the turn signals and 1 for the emergency flashers. On most GM's, the hazard lights will not flash when the brake pedal is applied anyways. If the brake lights and the front turn signal bulbs all light up, then the turn signal flasher is most likely the problem. On the older vehicles, the turn signal flasher is usually located under the dash near the steering column on a wiring harness. The hazard flasher is located near or on the back side of the fuse box. Find both and switch the flashers around to see if the turn signals flash.

Check your bulbs first, if the lights on the dash come on and don't flash, that is a signal that a bulb is burnt, but the emergency flasher will still work. If the outside bulbs front and back are working, then check the flashers.

ok doesn't sound like a ground becuz they are working . check the flasher relay switch fuse and the switch itself ok when you turn on the blinker do you hear the normal clicking sounds of the blinker or nothing at all basically if that is the problem it's only like a $5.00 simple change part
NOTHING MAJOR AT ALL good luck you can email me to let me know tdt2212006@yahoo.com talk to ya later

your particular vehicle has TWO flasher relays, and they look the same, one does just the 4 ways and the other does your turn signals.
in most cases the two flashers will be in the same circuit panel but on occasion one will be with your fuses and the other will probably be under your dash near the center hump.
i would replace both of them if i were you.

ok well i have had many old trucks and i know that your e-flashers dont flash when you have you brakes on its just a fluk from the factory thats not a problem. but how ever you turn singles could either be the relay or even a blown bulb on the one side if only one side dosent blink or it could be the switch in side the steering colum

Check the flasher and blinker switch. I believe the hazard flasher and blinker flasher are seperate.

the turn signal flasher is bad, replace it and the world will be alright again, it's the round chrome or silver plug in that is in your fuse box.

it does sound like a ground problem, the turn signal switch should not have any effect on your hazard light circuit. the brake switch operates to complete the circuit to the brake lights that seems to be working, check your bulbs, they should be 1157's installed properly in the socket, also check your bulbs up front too.the incorrect bulbs can cause the same type problem

check the connection at the wiring harness, where the wiring harness comes out of the steering column, there is a half moon style connector, take that apart and clean all the contacts. just had this problem on a 1972 chevy blazer k5. cleaned up all connections on connector and blinkers are working properly now. could just be corrosion on the connections. I d clean all connections including that half moon wiring harness.
