Two of his 'friends' broke the law he says he tried to prevent them from doing it but has ended up being prosecuted for their wrong doing. He knows who and where they are but refuses to turn them in, he is looking at a jail sentence if convicted. I lost my temper with him and told him he deverves what he gets if he takes the wrap knowing he could turn the culprits in. I just cant get him to see sense I keep thinking that maybe he really did do it and he is playing the matyr (if thats the right description) to gain sympathy and shift the blame but he is just not the type of person who would commit this crime or maybe I don't know him as well as I think I do. What do you think? should I let him get on with it and let him deal with the consequences?

It seems you are not sure if he is guilty or not, but if he has started to live a lie then there is little you can do about it.

You must try to convince him that his life will be affected forever by this stupid (if selfless) act of bravado for his so called mates, would they do the same for him?? i doubt it, there is an old saying about there being "no hounour among theives" and he should think on this before he commits himself to fall for someone elses wrongdoing.

Truth will always out, and in the end it is his call, credo is a big deal among certain types of people these days and perhaps he thinks he can gain some by this foolish act, NOT !!!

He will be seen only as a weak fool and someone to be used and abused when the guys he is purporting to protect feel they need a scapegoat and will suffer over and over throughout his life.

Alas there is no fool like a fool on a mission. All you can do is try.

Good luck with changing his mind. ;) H

This is a hard one!! Why would he want to take the rap for someone else's wrong doings? Have they perhaps threatened him in any way! If you really feel that he is innocent, you could go and speak to the police yourself, telling them what you know. Court is usually the place where they judge the situation, and if he is innocent, they should be able to weed that out. Surely he has witnesses? If not, then try and convince him that taking the blame for something he didn't do is going to destroy his future. He will have a criminal record and gaining employment is going to be tough. Being big for his mates, is just not an option. It is also illegal as he won't be telling the court the truth!! If that gets found out ... he WILL get into serious trouble. If he is being threatened, then he needs to speak to the police! I wish you and your friend good luck!!

speaking on a guys point of vue, for some reason we'll doing anything for our mates because we know that they would do the same for us, and as for grassy them up its a no no. As for the guys on the run, its time like these you find out who your friends are. Its good enough your friend is taking the blame but why dont the boys on the run hand them selfs in if they are such good friends. The answer to your question is simple you carnt change his mind and dont try to because he wont like that, either his friends will hand them selfs in or your friend will go to jail or get off you never know . Just stand by him wot ever happens ok.

He's young and foolish as we have all have been. All you can do is offer advice, don't push to hard you may lose your friendship.

Maybe you think its worth losing your friendship to make him see sense, but we must all learn from our own mistakes.

He may also be under pressure from his 'friends' to take the rap and if he doesn't he may consider the consequences worse (they may well be, don't know the crime don't know his 'friends',)

Let him "get on with it", sounds like he might have done it. (the correct spelling is "rap") If he did not do it, he needs to talk to his "so called friends" and get them to confess, so he may go free. IF, he did not have anything to do with this!
