What we ask and how people respond says a lot about what we value and how (not what, but How) we think. Scary, isn't it? Given what you see in Yahoo Answers, consider what the future of mankind is likely to be. Are we evolving and progressing, or regressing, or just flat out doomed to early extinction?

The point is what the questions are; what kind of intelligence and interest do they indicate. One "inquiring mind" might ask how the brain works, while another asks why we have brains. What does that say about each of the people asking them?

If you take a random sample, it would suggest we are all a bunch of brain dead wierdos who need to get a life.

All present company excepted, of course.

I get what you mean. If you pay attention to the mass of different questions, the more popular ones with most responses fall into three categories: religion, racism and sex. These questions are all volatile and seem to bring out the worst in some. In seeing these questions and answers, I'm often curious to see the person's profile; are they asking/answering these type of questions specifically; what is their agenda? What message are they bringing to the Y!A world that will filter into reality?

I think in some respects, we are progressing - mankind has opened a number of doors that would otherwise be closed. However, in some areas, we are regressing. I wouldn't say it was a matter of extinction - its not that deep; however, we are closing the doors that so many, long ago, fought to open in the first place.

i think you're simply reacting the way society reacts when change is presented. it was like this during the roaring 20s, too. it's like buying a new refrigerator- sure, the old one was great, but you do need to accept the fact that you need a new one, right? sometimes, in fact, many times, we have to move back to progress...besides, asking and answering the simplest questions can make one person's life easier and make one feel better, especiallly when there's no one else to talk to..so yeah.... it may seem like we're going to be extinct but....it always does...
