Try to include some humor. Tell a funny, but not hurtful, story if you can.

Here are some good words for retirement:

May you have enough happiness to keep you happy.
Enough trials to keep you strong.
Enough sorrow to keep you human.
Enough hope to keep you thoughtful.
Enough failure to keep you humble.
Enough success to keep you eager.
Enough friends to give you comfort.
Enough faith and courage in yourself to banish depression.
Enough wealth to meet your daily needs.
Enough determination to make each day a better day than yesterday.

If you can find a copy in time there is a Doctor Seuss book about retirement - it has some really good verses. My daughters gave me a copy when I retired. It's called You're Only Old Once.

These links should give you lots of ideas. Best of luck with it.

Be philosophical...
Retirement is just the next chapter, or new journey.... It is an exciting time filled with an abundance of time to indulge in your heart's desire. We wish you a reason to smile each and every day and that you use each day to its fullest...
