The English "humour" is just culturally different than American "humor". We too enjoy sarcastic humor/wit.

Yes, we find your way of spelling the language funny.

Winston Churchill, a man that was half English and half American, once said that the English and the Americans were two cultures separated by a common language. We are very much alike but we have different experiences so we find different things funny.

Some of us do. In fact, I keep getting into trouble at work because my idiot boss doesn't understand it.
Example:
Insulin comes in several different kinds, each marked with a huge letter on the side of the vial for easy identification. At work they decided to separate the vials into colored containers, each type in a different colored container. I wrote her a letter and asked what is going to happen to the nurses who are not only illiterate (can't read the huge letter) but color blind too?

She didn't see any humor in my comments! Some people just don't get it.

Fraiser? It's soft but it is sarcastic wit. The other end of the scale (tv wise) is black adder and Borat. My experience leads me to believe that Americans do not like to criticise at a personal level. Sarcasm is very much one person 'attacking' another and it makes people uncomfortable.

WOW... Yet another intelligent British version of what's wrong with America. Do they ever stop picking faults with OTHER countries? If we are so dense and lacking comical interpretation- maybe it's not because we don't get it- maybe it's because you all really aren't as funny and clever as you think you are and we just refuse to patronize you. And another little clue for you- if you go to America- you have to subscribe to cable and choose to tune into the ONE channel - BBC America to watch any British TV. However in Britain- television has NOTHING but US TV and movies and COMEDY... Hmmmm funny that. (BTW- is my sarcasm apparent enough?)

I agree with the above mentioned Friends (Chandler) note. But be aware, if we do not find something to be humorous, this does not necessarily mean there is a conspiracy involved.

True, they don't. Any sane person would laugh uproariously at this description of an American:

"A terrorist colonial who should have been strapped to the muzzle of a cannon and had some sense blown in to them"

Did they laugh? I'll give you a clue. NO

A large minority of Americans understand it and appreciate it. The mainstream culture doesn't include much of it, and I do not understand why. It must have been shaped by cultures who did not go for sarcasm.

Any country that considers Billy Bob a perfectly fine name obviously has no brain capacity for humour.

It isn't sarcasm that they don't understand it is irony. But this is a form of humour that is not understood in most countries in the world.
