6.022 x 1023 pennies...however many times that reaches 93,000,000 miles away (which is about the distance to the sun from earth), considering that a penny is 1.43 mm thick...i guess you'd have to convert miles to moles and somehow consider the 1.43 mm in your equation...:-$...well, thats your answer! have fun solving! lol

a mole of pennies is 6.023 x 10^23 (avagadro's number)pennies. A) start by multiplying this number by the length of 1 penny (I would use milimeters and then convert it to kilometers). B) Determine the distance of the earth to the sun (I would use kilometers). Because the question is "here and back" you need to multiply the distance from the earth to the sun by 2 for a total distance. After reaching this, using division, see how many times A goes into B, or B/A. this is your answer with no units (they cancel out). Make sure when you divide that both B and A are in the same units (kilometers)or you will be off. 1km = 1000m; 1 m = 1000mm so 1km = (1000)(1000) = 1,000,000mm good luck

Using 150,000,000 km for Earth to Sun and assuming all pennies are fresh from the mint, total Earth -Sun distances would be approximately 5749, or 2875 Earth to Sun round trip

Added: A mole of is based on Avogadro's Number, which is 6.022 X 10^23. So multiply that huge number by 1.43 to get the height of a stack in mm, and then divde by 150,000 X 10^6. The 10^6 converts km to mm.

Yikes! I know this is words and wordPLAY, but even so!!!

What sort of mole are we talking about exactly? None of them are likely - but if we were talking about a mile of pennies it wouldn't get very far on it's journey to the sun, would it?!!

Perhaps the 'mole' of pennies is in the shape of the mammal sort of mole?!

And what sort of 'beck' are we talking about? Jeff Beck? A brook? It can't be a gesture, that's too silly..!!

So, my answer to your question is - the mole wouldn't get very far unless it started running, but it wouldn't quite get there because the metal would melt when it got too close to the sun. The mole would be better off staying on earth, and going to see Jeff Beck in concert by the babbling beck!
