& you feel no pain

have you ever had to do this or have you embraced this line of reasoning

isn't this something that Buddhism teaches

but can it really make you happier - where do your deepest dreams/hopes/wishes go afterwards

thanx

They are sublimated. You may still have them, but they don't control your life, your thoughts or your actions.

Dreams, hopes and wishes don't make you happy. They make you yearn and long for what you do not have.

Purge yourself of desire, wishes, and dreams??
Sure, that will result in the dissolution of suffering,
pain, and dissapointment.....but it will also result
in the loss of joy, pleasure, and exaltation! The
two are one and the same, as two halves of the
same whole- each is necessary to live a full and
interesting life. There is no exctasy without it's
couterpart, agony; no happiness without sadness,
no love without hate. Is that what you really want?
To be numb to all of life's wonder and excitement?
Gosh, I hope not. Sounds pretty lame to me.....

It is an integral part of human nature to yearn, to hope,
to dream, to desire something better- something more.
These desires are responsible for every great invention,
every brilliant idea, every masterpiece, and every glorious
achievement of human society. These desires are what
seperate us from the rest of creation. You are a human,
not a rock, or a pile of dirt. So embrace your humanity-
Who knows, next time arround, you might get your wish!

Desire is what drives us. The thing is not to leave it take over you; you have to control them. It is true; if you have no desires you have no anxiety.

But it's not possible to get rid of them. You can only make sure that they are not the most important thing in your life.

i think cutting of desire is a way to manage the impulse, but it always ends in a dissatisfaction. Desire should be free, we should be free to desire and to make real that desire. Follow your heart but let your mind take the lead. greetings!

You have misunderstood. It means cutting off worldly desires. In order to reach God, you have to have the desire to go beyond. Cutting off all your desires, you do not go anywhere. In fact you go down the ladder.
