I go to Lighthouse Beach, an awesome and totally legal nude beach on Long Island (NY), about an hour's drive east of New York City. It's my favorite place to get naked.
For other areas, check the websites of the AANR (American Association of Nude Recreation), The Naturist Society and the International Naturist Association. All can provide tons of great information.

In Lakeland, there is a hi end nudist, Hotel, condos, eateries, shops.
