The French and Indian War was begun by colonial militia led by George Washington. His militia invaded French territory in the Ohio valley.

Note: This was the first time a colonial war provoked a continental war in Europe. It was already an English and French battle, so fighting carried over to Europe and developed into the Seven Year War.
