Would you explain it to me? I don't get the end. If they can go home, how come her husband can't see them? All he can do is smell them. In the devils playground, what are those mummy things? Why are they there? Did they do wrong to Allisa? At the end when Rose is in that one Hospitail room and she see's Allisa in the bed all burned up, What happened to that nurses face? Why is there blood scattered all over her face and her eyes are turned up? When Rose enters the hospitale room and she see's the truth. (the little movie) and that part after the kids throw the papers at her, she runs into the girls Bathroom and the Janitor named Colin is in there. What does he do to her? Does he rape her? Why did that one women (the one that was crazy) give her child to that teacher that was gonna pureify her with fire? One last question, is that little girl with the shaggy hair the Devil

I agree with "savmcardle" (except for the Wikipedia part, which is about as accurate as most weather reporters). If you watch it again and pay close attention, a lot of your questions will be answered. However, since you (and apparently a lot of other people) are most confused about the ending, I'll help you out. Contrary to popular belief, the mother and daughter are not dead. They're still trapped in Alessa's alternate dimension. Here's what happened...

There are three parts of Alessa:

- Alessa (the original body)

- Good Alessa (Sharon)

- Dark Alessa ("The Demon")

Sharon and Dark Alessa are basically physical manifestations of the two sides of Alessa - the good side and the evil side. As for how Alessa created these physical manifestations (and the alternate dimensions), it can only be assumed that she possessed some kind of supernatural power (possibly telekinetic and/or psionic powers, which would obviously lead everyone associated with the cult to call her a witch). Assuming this is true, the ending goes as follows:

1) Dark Alessa (aka - "The Demon") does not, in fact, take over or possess Sharon. Dark Alessa simply recombines with Good Alessa (Sharon), creating a new "reincarnated" Alessa.

2) Alessa's deal with her evil counterpart is not simply that she will help her exact her revenge, but that she will also be granted a new life with a better mother: Rose.

3) In this case, you can look at the ending in one of two ways:

a.) Alessa's plan works and she is granted a new mother in Rose. However, because Alessa was motivated by hate and revenge and let her evil side take over (as well as Rose's part in the revenge), Rose and Sharon (Alessa #2) are doomed to live in the purgatory-like realm that Dark Alessa created. Therefore, no one really wins.

or

b.) Alessa's plan works and she is granted a new mother in Rose. Now with Sharon's memories to work with after reuniting with her, Alessa can extend her sphere of influence and create a world just like the one Sharon and Rose lived in, where they can stay forever. In other words, Alessa doesn't want Rose to leave her alternate dimension; she wants to keep Rose all to herself.

Hope this helps. :)

Watch the movie again and pay close attention, and you'll get your answers. Check the extra features on the DVD, or search Wikipedia. A lot of stuff in that movie just can't be explained... that's what makes it so deliciously creepy =)

The reason her husband can't see them is because they are in an alternate universe where they can go home but to him they are ghosts. As far as the rest Im not sure because it's been ahile since I've seen it but I do remember a little bit.

b/c when the car crashed they died and since they died in silent hill they were sent to purgatory b/c the little girl cursed the town
to stay there and not have their souls released...so they are ghosts not stuck in purgatory b/c the little girl did not kill them to relaese their souls...the game is a lot easier to understand thatn the movie

You don't understand it because it is a poorly written movie with a stupid convoluted plot and piss-poor acting.
