To captivate the spectators.. the bulls don't see color differences and really do not care whether they are teased with the color red or not

So the blood doesn''t show. And forget about red angering bulls - it's an old wives tail. Those bulls don't care if it's red or chartreuse, they will tear you up eaither way.

just like his costume, its a little flash for the audience, there is no functional reason to use red, bovines are color blind, then again, some shades of gray may offend them
