The starters function is to turn the engine until it starts. If the engine turns the starter is good. The batteries function is to provide the voltage to provide spark to the engine and run the accessories such as lights, radio, etc... The alternators function is to continually recharge the battery. Even though your lights work the battery may be too weak to provide enough cold cranking amps (CCA) to provide a strong enough spark to ignite the fuel/air mixture in the cylinders. Remove the battery from the car. Put it on a charger and let it recharge. Clean any corrosion from your battery cables. Make sure the belt around your alternator is tight (no more than 1/2" play). When you put the battery back in make sure the cables are on the correct posts and fastened tightly. If the battery won't hold a charge, go to AutoZone, Pep Boys, etc.... and have them test the alternator. If it's good you need a new battery. Good Luck.

First thing, get a full charge on the battery, because that's what was drained. The starter and alternator were not operating. If you were improperly connected when you tried to jump start the car, you may have burned out the ignition module or the voltage regulator in the alternator. Think seriously about getting a new girl friend.

weak battery at the very least, starter seems fine or it would not turn over-ALT we can't tell until you start it becayse it has nothing to do with starting the car only charging battery once car is started. Cheap and easy way to check alt out put is to get car started and disconnect batt cable-if it stays running your alt is ok ,if it shuts off you might need a new alt-good luck and hope this helps

Battery needs a full charge, either put it on a battery charger or have the jump cables connected for a bit before you try to start it again. The more time it's getting extra juice, the more it's going to help your dead battery.

I would take the battery and get it checked out. If the battery is good, it will have to be recharged. If the battery checks out bad, then buy another.
