Definitely, they are great for your tank, and they are of no risk to your fish. Your plants will happily use up any CO2 in the water.

Not sure how you're going about breaking down the CO2 bubbles into the water. Large bubbles are ineffective because they break at the surface and much CO2 is lost. Personally, I prefer using a water pump. They increase water circulation, which is good, but they also break up the CO2 bubbles into the smaller bubbles that can be well absorbed.

The only issue I have come across is altering pH levels. I turn my CO2 off at night, because the plants don't use CO2 at night - actually, they produce it. With too much CO2, the pH level will drop. However, it may be fine in your tank, depending on your water pH, buffering, and plants. Test you pH first thing in the morning before turning the lights on, and do regular pH tests at night and in the morning.

They tend to work rather well, I have mine hooked up to a small submersible filter and the plants seem to do well. It is possible to get too much carbon dioxide in the tank though (especially if you have small tank, such as my 2.5 gallon). However, if you change (or add) the carbon dioxide early in the day or right after the lights turn on and try to get water circulating on the top of the tank, you shouldn't have any trouble with it. The problem I had was that I changed the CO2 late at night and then didn't have anything to help add the oxygen into the tank.

But as long as you do that, they work wonderfully and are a lot more cost efficient! Hope this helped!
