Tampons. When I got my period I wake up stick a nice heavy duty tampon in there and it stays in for 10 hours or so. When I realize what time it is, I just take it out and I don't get TSS.

Depends on what you prefer. I prefer tampons..they're cleaner and if inserted properly, you never feel them. You can swim w/them, pads you cannot. Tampons can leak if you have a heavy flow but using super's or changing them more often helps w/that. Pads are bulky and feel like a diaper and if not changed often can cause an odor. Tampons nowadays can be left in for up to 8hrs so wearing them to bed is no longer a problem.

Pads are better, but Tampon stop the leaks.
Tampons have been shown to have a connection to toxic shock syndrome (TSS), a rare but sometimes fatal disease caused by bacterial infection. The U.S. FDA suggests the following guidelines for decreasing the risk of contracting TSS when using tampons:

Follow package directions for insertion
Choose the lowest absorbency for your flow
Change your tampon at least every 4 to 8 hours
Consider alternating pads with tampons
Avoid tampon usage overnight when sleeping
Know the warning signs of toxic shock syndrome
Don't use tampons between periods
Following these guidelines can help to protect a woman from TSS, but if she uses tampons at all, she is still at risk, no matter how careful she is. The only way to avoid this risk is to use other forms of menstrual protection, such as a menstrual cup (worn internally), or sanitary napkin (external).

I have used both, but prefer tampons.

I have always had a very heavy flow and it is managed better with tampons. I got sick of accidents, the mess, and discomfort. Plus they stopped making the kind of pad I wore.

I use Playtex unscented. I have used tampons for the past thirteen years and never had any problems. The gist is to use them correctly.

to me pads r better.but tampons r 4 atheletes.like it u swim then ur better off with a tampon rather than a pad.but pads i guess r just a little easier 2 use and i think its good for begginers in their period.depends on which ur more comfortable with.tampons r a little advanced and u have 2 be clean with tampons.dont have ur tampon in "there" 4 more than 2 hrs or so..so that means u havta change it!!(pads and tampons)u have 2 be very very very sanitary with both.

Pads:

Pros -
safer than tampons (no risk of toxic shock)
letting blood flow "out" seems more natural
easier to tell when it's time to change

Cons -
slight risk of yeast infection
slight risk of urinary tract infection
the odor
feeling like you're wearing a diaper

Tampons -

Pros:
Better Protection
Feeling Cleaner
Not really being able to feel anything

Cons:
Risk of Toxic Shock
not natural to hold flow inside of you
may increase cramping

Cups -

Pros:
Can be worn for up to 12 hours, safely
No know instances of toxic shock or infection
with Instead Cup, you can have sex on your period

Cons:
Difficult to insert
Can be messy

Whichever you prefer. Pads for light days & tampon with pads for very heavy days. Be sure you change the tampons frequently to prevent odor and infection.

It definitely depends on your lifestyle.. If you are physically active, tampons are probably the better choice. Whatever u feel cleaner or more comfortable in. Buy both and use what u would feel more comfortable in on a certain day. Thanx for letting me help and byes! :)

i would use tampons if you're going to move around a lot in the day and i would use pads when you go to bed or when you're just chilling at home. tampons tend to make you feel more "cleaner".
