You may want to consider something other than pills which won't be an effective and permanent cure anyway. Yoga practices can give you a safe, natural and permanent cure. What prevents us from sleeping is an overactive mind which we cannot switch off. Anyone can quickly learn meditation and mind stilling techniques. The best yoga for this is Siddha Yoga as taught by it's founder Swami Muktananda, a wonderful teacher. Siddha Yoga meditation centers are all over the world and you can find out more online. I urge you to try this natural and really beneficial solution. You will be glad you did. If you email me I can give you titles of publications by Swami Muktanands that would be good to start with. I wish you the best.

A pill made from 90 lb. of concrete. Place it on your head when you go to bed. You will sleep for a long time. Pills aren't the answer to sleep. You need to stop thinking when your head hits the pillow. Meditate instead.

Calcium and melatonin have both worked for me but every once in a while I have to take unisom. Just make sure you take it early enough so you are not tired in the morning. Also, If you like tea, try sleep time tea, health food stores have it. That has also worked for me on occasion. Good luck! I know what you are going through!

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Try taking some calcium. It's good for your bones of course, but it's also a natural mustle relaxer and helps you to "wind down". Besides that, read - DO NOT WATCH TV PRIOR TO GOING TO BED.
