Why are you wasting your time with coolant exchange ?? I can't believe the gimmicks that have come along. The radiator hose collapsed because the system is under vacuum, probably due to the fact that the thermostst is closed, You can't do a coolant exchange with the thermostat closed as there is no circulation. perhaps the operator is inexperienced. It is a totally useless procedure and serves to stir up all the sediment in your cooling system and allow it to reach the radiator so it can plug it up.

You pulled a vacuum. The upper hose operates under pressure and the lower will pull a vacuum at higher throttle. The lower usually has a spring in it to keep from collapsing.Your upper hose is probably still fine.
