Either you should buy him a book set of Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion. Or buy plastic model kit of a fighter plane with cement glue and some acrylic paint. Or an Estes model rocket that he can work on in the backyard or in a nearby park.

My oldest son is 14...he wants an i-pod...they are expensive but if your 14 yr old has one than get him an i-tunes card.
Any gift card to a music store is awesome too...

a sweatshirt with his favorite band, a cd, you didnt say if this was a boyfriend or not, if so have someone take a pic of you two and put it in a really nice Christmas frame to go along with something smaller
