You dont have false contractions, you can have false labor. The contractions are real, no matter if they cause labor to progress or just prepare the body for labor.

If they went away, and did not get more severe, and have no returned since, I wouldnt worry about it.

Braxon hicks are very common for this part of pregnancy, and they can be quite painful.

You really shouldnt have more than 6 an hour, as anything more than that can be a sign of preterm labor, or the onset of labor. But being that they went away, it seems it was false labor.

HOWEVER. Since the carmps resulted in some blood you should get checked out to make sure you're not dialting or effaced quicker than you ought to be.

If you had sex the same day as the contractions and the spotting, it can probably be chalked up to that, since the more pregnant you get the lower your cervix is and the easier it is to get irriated by a mans penis. Semen causes your uterus to contract, its natural, thats why so many doctors and wivestales suggest having sex often to bring on labor when youre past due.

I would call your doctor, let them know what all happened, and ask them if they want you to come in and get checked.

g'luck!!

Easy test for false labor: did you sleep last night, or keep waking up with contractions? False labor lets up when you relax and change positions. If you slept OK, it's not serious yet. It may still be effacing and dilating you though, but quite likely, some of the pain is actually your bowel caught under the baby, being squished. Labor contractions are between 1 minute and 90 seconds, although I had a few last more than two and a half minutes. Most doctors are concerned when you have 4-6 in an hour.

First, every pregnancy is different, so the fact that you didn't have contractions (braxton-hicks) with your first three doesn't necessarily mean you wouldn't have them now.
That being said, bleeding in conjunction with muscle contractions could signal a problem. While it's unlikely, the best course of action is to call your doctor. He/she will know what to do and give you the advice you need to put your mind at rest.

You're supposed to go to the doctor if you get more than 4 contractions an hour unless you're full-term (37 weeks). Of course now that they've stopped you don't have to but if they start again you should go.

You should call your doctor for any spotting, unless it's a small amount of pink spotting after sex or a vaginal exam.

When in doubt Call the Doc!

Sounds like Braxton - Hicks contractions to me.
You should mention this to your OB-Gyn on the next weekly visit.

Good Luck to you and your little one.

IT could be. If they stop when you change postion or drink water then chances are they are false. After having three myself I learned that being dehydrated can cause braxton hicks. Webmd.com can offer alot more peace of mind then I can though

Sounds like braxton hicks to me. I had them and mine were very painful at times. If they start again and you are worried you should call your doctor or the hospital ob to see what you should do. Good luck.

I would call your doctor and tell him or her what has been going on and let him know that you are uneasy about it! They may want to check you out just in case especially if you were spotting!

Get up and walk. If they go away, they are Braxston Hicks (false contractions).
