I have a good teaching and research experience at the undergraduate level. I am also doing 2 degrees, one in electrical engineering and the other one in mathematics. My grades don't reflect my potential at all. I also have some work experience and might publish some work i am doing. Thanks

You are going to have to come accross as being very confident (and I don't mean arogant). You need to talk up the work experience too, but remember, they can usually see through if you are embellishing the significance of that experience. A low gpa won't help, you need to be comfortable talking about why they should give you the opportunity anyway. Good luck.

Not all colleges look for the creme of the crop. If your recommendations and essays reflect your potential, you have a good chance of entry. Companies look for people that can be molded and so do Universities. If you learn easily, you will do well in the classes. Universities look for people that companies would want to hire, because the more people hired from their school, the better their reputation. During interviews, be assertive, know what you want, and include your work experience and build on that. As the man above said, be confident. Arrogance is okay in very small portions, but too much is a ticket to unemployment, or in this case, grad school.
