Italy has much more depth than the French do. Airtight defence and a wide group of goal scorers. I think Zidane looked so good because most of his team couldn't score if you put a gun to their heads.

look at rerun of world cup final game...
materazzi put 2 soccer balls in goal (one of them is real true goal)
zidane put one in goal (it is not real goal --it is just a cheap PK goal)
