We are wanting to find land in front of water...but with lots of trees around it....we are willing to develop the land...use the timber that is on the property...we are interested in finding out if land can still be homesteaded in the U.S. There are books that you can pay for that tell about places available...but we also know that the list of properties is also available for FREE from the government. Haven't had much luck with an Internet search on our own...any help would be appreciated!

Your internet search hasn't worked because the internet wasn't invented yet when the government was doing this. I don't think anywhere south of Alaska did this past 1900...

Alaska was the last state that had land that the federal government granted. Check this out and see if other state websites have something similar:
