word of mouth means that you yourself know or you heard it from a reliable source. Passing the "word" along is called word of mouth. It's usually better than advertising. People that build a strong business by "word of mouth" are usually very reputable. It means that everything that is said about them is usually good. But if youre not good then "word of mouth" can also ruin you.

it means hat somoene told them or they overheard someone talking about it. if you are looking for a new salon or something and you hear some people talking about a new place downtown so you check it out. then you had heard about it b word of mouth
