I love track & field.
You can be on a team while still an individual.
If you are good enough you get to travel the world, see some great places and meet great people, you actually get a first hand look and see places that you may be studying in geography class. It teaches you how to get along with others,discipline, scheduling, empathy and sometimes humility.
Plus it gives you a good body, you get in shape, develop good habits(eating, sleeping)

When I was a little kid, I loved sports, but I was small, slow and not very coordinated. I played little league for five years and football and basketball for years too, but never improved or really developed at all. Then I joined a track club when I was 13 and everything changed. I became the fastest runner in my class. I developed endurance and I physically became a different person. That was over 30 years ago. I stll run today and compete in distance races as well as triathlons every year. I am extremely healthy and I am usually mistaken for someone who is 5 to 10 years younger. Football, baseball, basketball, etc. are a lot of fun, but they are games. If you get involved in a truly athletic discipline like track, cycling, swimming, etc. and really dedicate yourself to success in that sport, you will find it a transforming experience and you will become a real athlete.

At its best, track is the purest and most simple of all sports.

Just kind of a shame that doping has made it not so pure any more...

I love track because I love the adrenaline rush.

track is a great sport that is comprised of many different events that are suitable for any person, handicap to Olympian... old to young, and gives all a great workout as well as a sense of accomplishment... its also great for scholarships!!
