Intresting Question. Cristiano is definitely in the form of his life at the moment, his game is far more consistent than its ever been and he's really come on this season. I would say that he's definitely in the top 5 players (on form) in England with Drogba, Rooney, Fabregas up there.
As for the top 5 in the world, not at the moment i'd say he's in the top 10 for certain but he needs to carry on his form to the end of the season. So far he's been brilliant but he'll have to keep it up to get in the top 5.
Top 5 players in the world today in no particular order are:
Thierry Henry - how he's never won World/Euro player of the year god only knows, is such a gr8 player scores gr8 goals and leads the line for both club and country brilliantly. Is probably the best oversea's player to play in England. A Legend amongst Legends.
Cannavaro - Awesome defender, lead his country brilliantly in world cup and was excellent for Juve last season and looks good for Real this term.
Ronaldiniho - Poor world cup, but he was being played in a different role 4 Brazil, but he is a gr8 player and the last month or so for Barca he's been incredible.
Kaka - The 2nd Brazilian on this list, was probably Brazil's best player at the world cup, awesome player. Passing and shooting is world class and he can run the show with ease.
Francesco Totti - This might be a surprise for some people, but has 2 b top 5. Gr8 Inspirational player, wears his heart on his sleeve and has sublime skill on the ball. Scores and creates alot of goals and he is surley the man responsible for AS Roma's resurgance in the last 12months or so.
PS: to those ppl saying Cristaino dived against boro, well you're right he did dive, but that was for another incident in the game. He did not dive for the penalty he stumbled! If you look at the pics you can see he dosn't appeal when he goes down and neither do the other Utd players. The ref got it wrong that day.
However i will admit he has dived in the past for Man Utd but he has definelty cut it down to a minimum this season for Utd! Dunno about when he plays for Portugal thought! lol

No C. Ronaldo is not one of the top five players in the world. He is a good dribbler and has great soccer skills but not one of the top five players in the world. My top 5: Henry, Ronaldinho, Cannavaro, Drogba, Gerrard

Top five in the world today...hm...I guess some might think so. He is very talented at such a young age. But there are some people who look for different traits to personally classify someone as one of the best players in the world today. I personally wouldn't classify him as top 5. There are tons of players right now, who in my opinion, have contributed a lot to the sport, and therefore I consider them top players.

GROSS.
He may in sizzling form now but his ego has gotten the better of him. He even thinks he's better than Eric Cantona now!
The top 5 should consist of players like Henry, Kaka etc. Simply sublime skills.
