Do you want types of people, like the ones given in the previous answers, or are you looking for specific people...if so, here are a couple ideas---
---Rosa Parks...the focus of the famous Birmingham, Alabama bus boycott when she was arrested for not moving to the back of the bus to make room for a white passenger (but you probably know that already)
---John Kennedy...during World War II, the ship he was commanding, the PT-109 (it was a small patrol boat) was struck and split in half by a Japanese warship. Kennedy repeatedly went into the water that night to rescue many of his men.
William Clark and Meriweather Lewis---Set off up the Missouri River from St. Louis with no clue as to what they would find.
These are just a couple ideas...hope they help.

i'm sure you can think of some courageous people!
think about the people fighting for our country, the people saving lives, the people working to make our lives safer.
perhaps you could do some research on well known heroic figures on google.com.
