no...all you need need is dsl, cable or satellite service. any kind of high speed Internet service. then you need the proper hardware like an access point and your wireless card. you can go to linksys.com to find out more, it is too much 4 me to tell u here. it is great, not hard i am using mine now, out on the patio with my laptop and no wires.

Not exactly sure what you mean. If you mean the internet, if you have high speed you only need a wireless router and a wireless card. You hook the wireless router to your modem and then set it up to broadcast a wireless signal. Place the wireless card in the computer you want to connect with and see if it will detect the wireless network you just set up. Or you can have someone else do it. Something like Geek Squad is very expensive, though.

I have a wireless card and no provider and I pick up internet almost everywhere i go. Your wireless card picks up all the networks around you, sometimes they will be secured and you need a password but most of the time you can just log on.

if you're talkin about in terms of home use then no, once u have a broadband connection you can get a wireless router and make your system wireless, if your speakin about outside use, in the middle of the street for instance then u have to pay for a companys wireless card from a provider such as Sprint, or Verizon or Tmobile

YOu just have to be within acceptable range of a wireless access point to get the internet.
Note the Wireless access point must have access to the internet it self, or other wise you will only be able to browse their network only.
