Well, it is somewhere between
gasoline and kerosene. So Is
there any reason to spend 7 dollars
a gallon as opposed to 2 dollars a gallon for kerosene.

These are predominantly mixtures of straight-chain hydrocarbons in fairly narrow ranges of molecular weight and boiling point. Ref. 1 gives a rough idea of the range of number of carbon atoms in different substances like paint thinner, charcoal lighter, etc. I couldn't find a comprehensive list with more detailed data, but ref. 2 does give details for three solvents in wide industrial use.
